A fellow fraternity brother, Patrick Ryder and I met at Elon University in the Spring of 1996. DJ "Eazy Ryder" was a hot commodity on the campus dance scene. "Come On Ride It (The Train)" was his signature song in the early years, involving the most unique dance moves a music, or train, conductor has ever seen.
In all seriousness, after 20 years of knowing and working with Patrick, he's suited to make your event a success. Possessing the perfect combination of professionalism, charisma and humility that's necessary of a quality DJ, Patrick will make your event a smooth and enjoyable ride. He has some extraordinary event-planning skills also, helping plan "Rich & Bennett's" St. Patrick's Day event with more than 15,000 participants. I even trusted Patrick with DJing my own wedding! Whether it's a wedding, corporate event, downtown dance-off or house party, he'll make it a success.
And make sure to watch Patrick's bad dance moves in the Electric Run video below! It makes me smile every time!
When did you start DJing?
Messed around in High School trying to get our suburban rap career started, but Freshman Year in College, DJed at WSOE campus radio station at Elon University and Lambda Chi Parties
What is your favorite DJ memory?
Electric Run 2014 - 20,000 people on the infield of the Charlotte Motor Speedway, jumping up and down and moshing to the sounds of DJ EazyRyder Center Stage.
What is your funniest DJ memory?
My good buddy Troy "dancing" to the Backstreet Boys at his wedding!
What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you while DJing?
My Computer freezing 15 minutes before the reception. That's why we have backups! No wait. My personal DJ computer and one of the Carolina DJ Professionals company computers getting stolen out of my truck following our DJ meeting. That was terrible. Does that count?
What song best describes you as a DJ?
If you were to be a singer or in a band, you'd be….
Eminem, I'm the lead singer in D12 baby!
What's the worst hairdo you've ever had?
Oh man. Not as bad as Troy's boy band frosted tips, but I've had a few. I was rockin' the Ross Gellar & Chandler Bing look for a while. I had a military cut, that I thought was pretty bad ass. The worst had to be party up front and business in the back. Yes, in that order. It was a college roommate cutting your hair to save money kind of thing. Nice and tight in the back, and covered my face in the front, unless I was wearing a hat.
If I'm your DJ, I promise I won't…
Sing along to the song. Major party foul for a DJ.
What's the worst thing you've ever witnessed as a guest at a wedding, event or party?
I was a part of it, so technically I didn't see it, but at our buddy Jeff Dunlops' wedding, the DJ had Damien, Rich, Bubba, Bennett & me dress up as the Village People, unbeknownst to the wedding attendees, and perform an impromptu dance routine to Y.M.C.A.! It actually worked for that wedding if you can believe it.
What's your go to dance move?
What are your strongest traits as a DJ?
Feel for the crowd. I can usually get a sense of what type of a vibe people are going for and bring it!
What's your favorite sport?
"Basketball is my favorite sport. I like the way they dribble up and down the court. Just like I'm the King on the microphone. So is Dr. J and Moses Malone." - Kurtis Blow. Since I'm pretty much retired from playing basketball, I've taken up hiking. As for watching, it's NFL Football. Hands down. Here we go Steelers!
Also, I'm very involved with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation here in Charlotte. I've been a part of the CFF Xtreme Hike for a Cure both as a Hiker and as a volunteer. As a Hiker, I hiked 30.1 miles IN ONE DAY to help raise money for a cure for Cystic Fibrosis For the Spring Hike in April 2014, our group of 75 Hikers raised over $500,000 for a cure. I'm so fortunate to be a part of this great group of people. I've completed the Xtreme Hike twice and plan to do it again! You can usually find me training for the hike, attending or volunteering at other great CF events around town. If you are interested in donating, volunteering or hiking, please let me know and visit the link below. I'm already working towards April 2015!
Steelers! Pirates, Penguins, Penn State, and yes, the Washington Wizards. Hornets are cool and I've become a Charlotte Knights and Checkers fan too!
